Welcome, I’m Farnoosh Brock. I’m a career expert that helps you get promoted, get noticed, and build a dream career at your job. Today, I talk to you about the one thing you can do starting right now, that helps you stop being cynical about the system.
The Attitude That Can Wreck Your Career
Have you ever said to yourself, “I’m not lucky enough to get promoted?” “I’m not one of the special people that gets ahead at this place?” “I am not somebody that’s cut out for this,” or similar language as you’re talking to yourself. Have you thought to yourself that this is not fair? That you are doing everything you could be but things just aren’t working for you?
Well, that’s where you really need to be careful because if you don’t pay attention, first you becoming disappointed, then you become frustrated, and if you don’t fix it immediately, you start to develop and attitude of cynicism, which is one of the biggest turnoffs in a corporate culture.
The way this happens is you go in a downward spiral, negative thoughts feed on themselves and you keep feeling sorry for yourself.
Recognition of Cynicism is the First Step
The first thing you have to do is recognize that’s what is happening, because the truth is success principles, once you learn them, can apply to anyone. I know that you are a gifted person, you’re smart, you’re hardworking- you just don’t know everything you need to know to make your successful at your career.
In fact, I created another video where I talk about four principles that you need to apply to your career and I’ll make sure to link to it below, but going back to this victim mentality: it’s all driven by your ego. It’s not who you are, because the truth is your situation isn’t that unique. You just need to understand what you’re doing well and what you could be doing better in order to make the things happen to you.
Why Stop Being Cynical. Or Risk Your Career.
So, the thing that you need to do right now to stop this scarcity mindset, this victim mentally, that’s truly holding you back, is to simply not to think of yourself as a victim. Start thinking of yourself as a winner. In fact, think of yourself already in the place you hope to be in your company.
If you want to become a director, you need to already think of yourself as a director.
You’ve heard the phrase, “Dress for the next level,” well I want you to think for the next level. Put yourself already at the next level, and this immediately brings you out of that victim mentality and starts developing these attitude and these thoughts that help you approach your career as a winner.
I promise you, your management will take notice and you will develop the success that you are craving in your career.
